Ukrainian Borscht Soup Recipe

Image
What's better than a warm bowl of soup mid winter? This is traditional Ukranian Borscht Soup has a great depth of flavour and is  relatively cheap and easy to make. Moreover, the most of the ingredients can be found in your panty. This recipe is inspired by one of my favorite childhood memories at a Russian restaurant called Shashlik. I have always enjoyed its Borscht Soup more than any other dish served there. Unfortunately this restaurant will be closing its business at the end of the year. This is a great dish for a large family or a bible study group dinner. You can also freeze this soup and reheat for future meals. This recipe will feed at least 10. Equipment Large stock pot Knife Chopping board Peeler (optional) Shredder (optional) Ingredients   500g chuck steak or silverside diced or sausage mince 2 large onions diced 3 cloves of garlic diced 1 tbps sugar 3 medium carrots peeled and shredded 3 large potatoes peeled and shredded

Salmon & Bear, Zetland

Image
Salmon & Bear is an upscale, themed fish and chips shop in Zetland. We visited this restaurant in its second week of operation. Setting Stepping into the restaurant brings you literally into a whole different world. The interior is heavily themed into a very cosy Canadian hunting lodge, with Stag heads and salmon hanging from its walls. Walking in, you will first notice a strong blast of smoked fish. There is a  large table in the middle of the restaurant with stools all around it, replicating a homely eat-in kitchen of a home. I do have to admit that the seating is rather cramped. Best not to visit if you have more than 4 in a group. Food Grizzly Plate ($25) -  Any fish (Chose: Ora King Salmon), any sauce (Chose: Oyster & Sesame), any 2 sides/ salad (chose: Corn Salsa and Chips). The Ora King Salmon was perfectly cooked grilled and smoked in the charcoal Mibrasa oven. The skin was crispy while the inside was pink. On the downside, the de-boning needs some work - there

Ribs & Burgers, Zetland

Image
Ribs & Burgers has recently opened it newest branch in new trendy suburb of Zetland. This latest expansion meant increasing it's number of restaurants in NSW to 9. Setting The restaurant is decorated to an industrial theme. It had interesting decorative pieces - particularly the water and condiments cabinet and the wash basin in the middle of the restaurant. Other nice touches were the can/ tea pot holding your condiments and cutlery which also displayed your order number. Food We had order 1 main and 1 small side. As the portions were quite large, this was quite sufficient for 2. BBQ Pork Riblets with Sliders - Half rack of Pork Ribs cooked for 8 hours with a 2 sliders of your choice ( Hamburger or Grilled Chicken) and a small side salad of your choice (Cabbage Salad, Butcher's Salad or Rocket Salad). The pork ribs were really juicy and the meat slide right off the bone. The BBQ sauce was a good balance of sweet, sticky and savory. Of the 2 sliders, the grill

Reflections on a Christian Marriage (2 years and counting!)

Image
Today my husband, also my best friend, celebrate 2 years of being married. 2 years ago we said "I will" at the alter. Note that we didn't say "I do." The hallmark of our marriage is our promise to each other that everyday we will choose to love each other. For my dear husband, he chooses to love me just as Christ love the church and be willing to give his life to me, and to make sure I'm holy and blameless on the last day. For me, I choose to love him by submitting to him as the leader of our home. Unlike my colleagues who often complain about their husbands as a slob and not caring for the home, my husband is an amazing home cleaner and willingly clean every mess I create. He even takes great care of kitty litter - and that is a great deal with 4 cats! My husband on the other hand often compliments my cooking, and puts up with the odd things that come out from the oven when I try to bake. People who know us often ask how we keep our marriage

Tater Tot Casserole Recipe

Image
I've been trawling through food ideas to help feed our bible study group of 10. The main requirements: - Can be prepped the night before and/ or finished off within 1 hour. - Not spicy - No lamb - No coriander The inspiration of this recipe is from Michelle Dugger, the mum of 19 kids in the TV reality show 19 Kids and Counting. The recipe has been heavily modified to add lots more healthy vegetables and flavour. The great part of this recipe is in its flexibility of ingredients. You can add in lots of bits of mince and vegetables in your fridge to add colorful variety. This recipe will feed 10. (2 large baking trays) Ingredients: - 1 .5 kg of any mince (I used  500g turkey mince,  500g pork mince,  500g veal mince) - 5 rashers of bacon chop to bits - 200g mushrooms (approx 10 medium size) - 500g vegetables (I used  250g frozen vegetables and  3x zucchini diced) - 2 medium onions diced - 1.5 bags tater tots (aka potato gems) - 1 cup parsley

Does not accepting Christianity make one a Christianophobe? (The problem with the term Homophobe)

Image
If the LGBT community uses the term 'Homophobe' to label anyone who doesn't accept their lifestyle, is it okay for Christians to use the term 'Christianophobe' to label anyone who doesn't accept their beliefs and lifestyle? Unequal Equality If perfect equality applies, then the answer is "Yes". But, in our fallen world, there is no such thing as perfect equality. If Christians start calling people who don’t accept their beliefs and lifestyle ‘Christianophobes’,  there would be a huge out cry of “freedom of religion” and the “wrongful imposing of one’s religion”. Confusion The big confusion of the time is between loving a person and accepting of their behaviour. Likewise, the confusion between hate and non-acceptance of behaviour. Love does not mean acceptance of behaviour. Likewise, non-acceptance of behaviour does not mean hate. A great example was one described by a friend's friend on Facebook. "  I had an interesting co
