Albee's Kitchen, Kingsford

Albee's Kitchen is a Malaysian restaurant on Anzac Parade, Kingsford. This is one place where you can find authentic Malaysian cuisine.

Decor
The setting of this place would be like your typical Chinese low price range restaurant - lots of tables cramped together, no table cloth etc. This place can get very busy especially during dinner time and really noisy as well. Be prepared to wait 5-10 minutes to get a table during busy hours.

Food
Seafood Laksa - Home made laksa in a mild curry soup, coconut, fried tofu, bean sprouts and king prawns. This is your typical Malaysian curry laksa. It's very creamy, aromatic and a there's a generous amount of prawns.

Bihun Goreng Kampung - Fried rice vermicelli with fresh chilli, sambal, chili sauce, prawn, anchovies, chicken, egg, vegetables and bean sprouts. This is another very aromatic dish thanks to the sambal and anchovies. Even with the anchovies, I wouldn't consider this dish to be very fishy. I liked the fried egg on the top. It was semi cooked - with allow for all the yolk to ooze out on all the noodles like a sauce. This dish can be pretty spicy, so if you aren't about the spice, do tell them when you order it that you don't want chilli.

Drinks
There is a wide range of selection from the drinks menu. We had 2 hot drinks - Cham, which is coffee and tea mixed together; and Milo mixed with coffee. Very authentic to something you can find in a Kopi Tiam (Coffee shop) in Malaysia. You can get both drinks in a cold version too.

Service
This is one place where I can say the service is pretty non-existent. There's plenty of staff standing around, no idea why they weren't providing service. Probably it's the laid back nature of Malaysians. We needed small bowls, tried to get a waitress but ended up having to go to the counter and get one ourselves. It took us 5 minutes to find a wait staff to attend the counter to make payment while we were leaving.

Takeaway Desserts
There's a very wide range of Kuei (Malaysian cake) for take away - Rainbow, Ang ku, Seri Muka, Tapioca, etc. We did take away a box of Rainbow Kuei and it didn't disappoint. Great texture, not too sweet.

Price
The price of the food here is pretty reasonable for the amount of food served. Portions here are pretty big - so for the small eater, sharing a portion with someone is reasonable. Else, I suggest being environmentally friendly and bring a lunch box here (unless you want to pay extra for one). The price is slightly higher than the typical Chinese restaurant on the street - About $15 per person with drink, but is well worth it.
