Wet 'n' Wild Sydney Review 2015 (Part 1 - Overall)

Wet 'n' Wild Sydney is a water theme park located in Prospect, NSW (Western Sydney) operated by Village Roadshow Theme Parks. This is a seasonal park opened from late spring to early autumn each year (Sept to April).

How to get there
Wet 'n' Wild is accessible mainly by car just off the M4 motorway. Parking is $8 per day if you pay at the parking desk at the ticket entrance to the park. If you pay at the car park gate, the price will increase to $10. (Ridiculous.) Gold season pass holders get free parking. (You can only get Gold season passes early in the season.) Also note that there is no parking on the streets around the park. (Way to go to make more money!!)

Alternatively there is a shuttle bus running from Parramatta, Blacktown and Seven Hills train stations at a cost of $5 return per person.

Opening Hours
The park is open every day during the school holidays from 10am to 10pm. Other times, the park is opened on weekends and some Fridays from 10am to 8pm or 10am to 5pm. It is best to check the park's website for the details.

Tickets
Tickets are at $79.99 for persons over 110cm and $59.99 for persons under 110cm. If you are going in and not going a ride, you still have to pay a full-fare ticket (What a rip off!).

Season passes are available early in the season for unlimited entry starting from $99.99 for silver passes (the no frills option) and $129.99 for gold pass. If you are planning to visit the park more than twice, the gold pass is the best option as it would cover cost just on the car parking alone. Also if you want to save money, 1 gold pass per family is required. The gold pass also give you discounts to food, drink and other mechanise in the park. You would be issued a band with your season pass.

You can load up cash on your season pass band to use it at different shops in the park.

Lockers
Lockers
Lockers are available for hire. $10 for a small (tiny) and $12 for a large (normal sized). For your guesstimate on how big a locker you need - I could just fit everything in for just my husband and I in a 'large' locker.

Rides
Super Narrow Queue-lines
There are a total of 13 'adult' slides and 10 kids slides. There is also an river float pool, a kids splash zone, a kids river float pool and a beach wave pool. In addition, on top of that, there is a surf deck and a free-fall skycoaster. The last 2 rides mentioned are pay-per-ride attractions. For a more in-depth review of the rides, please refer my rides review page.

The queuing for slides has been very problematic at this park in the past, but has greatly improved in our most recent visit (January 2015). Lines for various slides are more clearly indicated. Also, the fast-pass lite makes it such that fast-pass holders can only accelerate their queuing once per tower per visit. Fast-pass is also more strictly policed and people trying to cut the queue are sent to the back of the line. However, queues are still very long. The new queue lines make queues ridiculously narrow too.

Food & Drinks
In this park, no outside food or drinks are allowed. Only store bought water is allowed into the park. This forces everyone to purchase the very over-priced food. Meals (without drinks) start from $10 for a hot dog to chicken tenders and chips for $16. Halal food is available, but not Kosher. Jewish people can request for an exemption to bring Kosher food in.

Drinks start from $3 for soft drinks. There is also a souvenir bottle which you can purchase for $13 ($8 with a meal) and get unlimited refills for the rest of the day. If you return to the park in the same season, you can bring the same bottle back for unlimited refills at $3 per day.

Snacks such as sandwiches, churros and pop corn are also available at prices from $6.

My advice, if you are going on a hot day, buy a bottle of water from your supermarket before going to the park. Alternatively, consider buying a souvenir bottle.

Cabanas
VIP Cabana

Cabana rental is available from $80 to $249. This might be a good option for families with young kids who can afford it. It would allow you space for your little one to have a nap in the day.

What to Wear
Most Australians dress practically to a water park. Women dress up in anything from a bikini to a burkini. Men would often be in swimming trunks.

You might find people in rash vests - which is really helpful to prevent UV rays, and to help keep warm or cool.

Showers
You can totally forget about taking a shower here, which sounds ridiculous in a water park. There are 4 spots of lockers and bathrooms. However, only one of these have showers. Showers are not in cubicles, so if you are not keen about being nude in a public bathroom, this might not be for you at all. Also, in that bathroom, there are only 4-5 showers. It was even hard finding a shower (with water) to shower before you enter the pools.

What to Bring
You would most definitely need to bring a towel (there is no towel hire), sun screen (a must have in the Australian sun), at least $20 per person for food and drink on top of the ticket price.

Overall
This park is a water park, NOT a water themed park. It doesn't have the themed décor of Disney's Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon. Rides are stacked plainly on top of metal framework of stairs. There's no music playing.

This park is ridiculously expensive if you are going to go there once. It is mainly because the average queue time for each ride is between 45 minutes - 1.5 hours. On our first trip when the park was opened between 10 - 5pm, we only managed to get on 5 rides. This equates to $17 per ride factoring in the cost of parking alone. This park is much better suited for Sydney residents and a season pass would allow you to visit as many rides as you want over the whole season.

That said, the ride quality is excellent in this park. There are lots of high thrill rides and fun for the whole family. It's a great park for Sydneysiders but not one for tourist.
