Where to buy affordable modest clothes in Sydney, Australia

Being modestly dress doesn't mean wearing daggy or old fashioned clothes. As from my previous post, Christian women are not bound by a set of rules on what to wear. However our choice should not stumble our fellow brothers and sisters (Romans 14) and by being modest, promote godliness (1 Tim 2).

However, as from another post I previously posted, there are clothes which help promote modesty. For example, leggings can help you cover your thighs and bum when wearing a short skirt or shorts.

Here are a few tips on where to buy these clothes.

1. Leggings
Multi coloured Leggings on eBay ($2.50)
My favourite cotton leggings are those from Uniqlo. For around $15, you can buy fine cotton leggings. They come in your favourite printed patterns or even knitted leggings.  However if you are after a cheaper option, you can get leggings from Kmart, BigW or Target for around the $10 range. If you are a serious saver, don't mind internet shopping or the long postage wait from China, then eBay would be a good option. You can find new leggings on eBay for as low as $2.50 a pair!

2. Cardigan
This is nearly a must have item in a cooler climate or if you work in a cold office for keeping warm. If you need this for winter wear, a merino wool would be the most comfy and warm option. However washing it isn't as easy. You can buy a merino wool cardigan from places like Country Road, Myer, David Jones or Uniqlo for somewhere in the $50 - $70 price range. (However, sometimes you can find much cheaper ones like the $15 one I bought from Aldi Supermarket!)
Target Cotton/ Viscose Cardigan ($30)
For summer wear, polyester or cotton cardigan would be most common. Or for a fancy one, you can get a silk cardigan. Most fashion outlets would carry a few patterns of cardigan. Target carries nice cotton/ viscose cardigans for around $30. For the cheaper end, you can one at Supre or SES for around region of $15. And the eBay cardigan would set you back as little as $6 for a brand new one.

3. Kimono Jackets
Kimono Jackets are mainly for summer, maybe stretching it for warmer days in spring or autumn. For a higher end one, you can find one at Zara. You can also find pretty Kimono Jackets are most lower end fashion shops (probably where most teens shop), like Just Jeans, Supre, Valleygirl or SES. They would set you back by around $20.

Kimono Jackets are a great accessory to have as they can help keep warm in air-con, help brighten up your look or even hide your love handles!

4. Scarves and Shawls
I don't think anyone would have any problems finding a scarf or a shawl in Sydney. They are literally at any clothing shop you visit. For winter, most would chose a warmer scarf like those made from fleece, wool or a knitted material. For the summer months, if it isn't too warm, there are light cotton or linen or even silk scarves. There are plenty of smaller shops which carry their own range of scarves. Most big departmental stores like BigW, Target or Kmart will carry a good range as well for very reasonable prices. Scarves are an inexpensive solution as one would set you back as little as $5.

5. Singlets, Tank tops and Camisoles
Singlets, Tank tops and Camisoles are great as an inner layer under your blouse or dress. Like scarves, for the different seasons, these come in a large range of different materials. For summer, there a thin cotton or lycra camisoles which help draw away sweat and heat. For winter, there are ribbed, knitted, thick cotton or even wool singlets. Like scarves, most clothing shops will singlets and camisoles.

When selecting a singlet or camisole, it is important to find one which fits well. If it is too large, material starts bunching up and will look worse under your dress, If it is too small, it may feel very suffocating. Also be aware that since you are using one of these to hide your cleavage, that the singlet actually covers it! (There are some that won't).

You can easily find singlets or camisoles in most departmental stores like Kmart, BigW or Target for around $10. For a more comfortable material, I would recommend Uniqlo which would set you back around $20. Some singlets or camisoles even come with a bra, saving you from having to put on one!

6. Crop Top Bandeau
Crop top Bandeau can be harder to find in a brick and motar shop. Target and BigW carry a limited variety at around $10-$15 for one. It is much easier to find one on eBay at around $5. Another alternative is to check out your local dollar shop. If you find one with cups, they can even act as your bra.
