Asian Home Cooking Equipment List

Home and kitchenware shops these days are filled with all sorts of utensils and appliances. And you can find stuff to fit nearly any budget. It can really be quite a daunting task when you are equipping your first kitchen.

Here's my list for a basic Asian cooking cuisine setup:

What you really need
Large (at least 30cm diameter) non-stick wok with a lid. Best to get a heavy-based one.
Colander
Large non-stick fry pan (Don't worry about quality, would need to be replaced regularly due to wear)
Large pot for soup. (For a family of 4, a pot of about 6-8L would be ideal)
Small and medium sauce pans.
Large cutting board.
Colander.
Wooden frying spoon.
Ladle.
Can opener.
Peeler.
Cleaver. (You can use this to cut nearly everything.)
Steaming rack.
Tablespoon and teaspoon.
Chopsticks.
Rice cooker. (Buy the best you can afford as the rice/ congee do come out different! I personally like Tiger.)
Electric kettle. (Unless you have instant boiling water.)
Cooking timer.

Steaming rack

What would be nice to have
Small non-stick fry pan
Grater
Kitchen knife set.
Skimmer.
Strainer.
Mandoline slicer.
Tongs.
Digital weighing scales.
Vacuum thermal pot or Slow cooker.
Blender.
